In 2008, parishioners of the Catholic Community of Sumter were asked to help select a name for the new parish. The top 5 nominations were:

1. St. Lawrence
2. St. Peter Claver
3. Divine Mercy
4. Holy Angel
5. All Saints

On March 1, 2011, Bishop of Charleston Robert Guglielmone combined the St. Anne Catholic Parish with the St. Jude Catholic Parish to form a new Catholic Parish, called "The Catholic Community of Sumter."   As the construction of the new church building for the combined parish proceeds, it is expected that the Bishop of Charleston, upon the recommendation of the Sumter priests, will select a name for the parish that reflects the history of the Church in Sumter and the wishes of the parishioners.
